GREAT TEACHER's GIFT!!

DL38157-Raggedy Ann & The Little Brown Bear by Applause for Ashton-Drake

Raggedy Ann celebrates her 90th birthday this year, having endeared herself to both children and adults for almost a century. The cheery, floppy doll with her yarn hair, brightly painted face and red nose was first loved by Marcella Delight, the only daughter of Raggedy Ann creator Johnny Gruelle. Gruelle would enchant his daughter with stories of Raggedy Ann and her pals when she was terminally ill at age 13. He created dozens of Raggedy Ann pals and later penned 29 books before his death in 1938, and the culture has endured ever since, inspiring a movie, a flourishing museum in Illinois, and festivals as far away as Japan. Raggedy Ann and The Little Brown Bear is based on a 1944 illustration by Johnny Gruelle. This series of dolls was issued by Applause in limited editions of 2000 each exclusively for Ashton-Drake in 2002. They are 12" high, beautifully crafted and elaborately packaged in oversized book-cover window boxes with numbered certificates. They retailed for $99.99 each.
